I am writing this letter to share information about the 2019 Coronavirus (COVID 19) outbreak as it relates to us in Hoquiam School District. This is an evolving situation across the globe, and I encourage you to visit both of these websites to keep updated:
Right now, there is no information causing us to take any specific action(s), however it is reasonable to assume the virus may impact our region as it is a new virus and there is no immunity. Therefore, I am taking the following steps to prepare us:
1. I am in touch with Grays Harbor Public Health and Social Services, and have established an open line of communication regarding this outbreak.
2. I am also in touch with OSPI regarding the potential need for "social distancing", which could involve school closure.
If the spread of the virus warrants us to take any specific action(s) in HSD, I will utilize multiple forms of communication with all staff and families ASAP.
I strongly encourage HSD families to begin contingency planning in the event of a school closure. This includes planning for such things as child care.
We will continue to follow the guidance of health experts and keep you informed.
